Abstract

Cet article s’intéresse à la formation des infirmières au Canada et aux rapports Survey of nursing education in Canada et Spotlight on nursing Education publiés respectivement en 1932 et en 1961. Bien importantes et largement diffusées dans le milieu des soins infirmiers, les recommandations formulées dans ces rapports n’ont toutefois pas apportées des modifications substantielles dans le développement de l’éducation des infirmières. Dans cet article, l’utilisation de l’État-providence comme cadre d’analyse permettra de faire valoir comment la nature politique de la santé a favorisé la mise en place de mesures ayant conduit à des réformes d’envergure dans la formation des infirmières permettant ainsi de répondre aux objectifs de l’État-providence.

Abstract

This article addresses nursing education in Canada, along with two specific reports, Survey of Nursing Education in Canada and Spotlight on Nursing Education, respectively published in 1932 and 1961. The recommendations in these reports, while of great importance and widely disseminated in the nursing world, did not bring about any significant changes to the development of nursing education. This article adopts the welfare state as an analytical framework for illustrating how the political nature of health encouraged the introduction of measures that ultimately culminated in wide-ranging reforms in nursing education designed to meet the objectives of this welfare state.
